The world of pop culture and entertainment is mourning the loss of Joan Rivers today. The comedienne peacefully passed away after going into cardiac arrest last week following a routine endoscopy. She was 81 years old.
As one of the queens of shade, Joan kept audiences laughing for over 40 years with her hilarious stand-up shows and popular Fashion Police specials-turned-TV show. But she was also known for dropping gems of wisdom, while keeping the laughs coming in her interviews.
Back in 2012, we were granted the rare opportunity to chat with Joan as she promoted her new reality show with her daughter Melissa, and she revealed to Jas Fly (a contributor to NecoleBitchie.com) why she would never retire:
I work because I can. I’m fortunate enough to be able to physically still do what I love…And people, you know, still support it. So I do as many (stand-up) dates as I can and of course I have Fashion Police, and Joan Knows Best and QVC, so I like to stay busy. It keeps me young. Sitting around with nothing to do makes you old. You have time to focus on the things that don’t matter much. She also revealed that her mother passed away before they had the chance to make up after an argument, and it helped her keep things in perspective when it came to her loved ones.
After my husband committed suicide, Melissa and I didn’t speak for over a year and that was terrible. When I was younger, I was very close
